Most walking tour routes cover 0.75 to 1.25 miles. There will be a fair amount of walking involved, and your experience will be much better if you prepare with a little comfort and courtesy.

Prioritize comfort over style—this is not the time to break in new shoes.
Closed-toe shoes are highly recommended. Our sidewalks are no joke; stubbed toes and ankle twists are common.
If you have weak ankles, consider wearing a brace.
If mobility assistance would help, bring it! Canes, hiking poles, seat canes—whatever makes you feel stable and supported.

Bring a light rain jacket, even if the forecast looks fine.
Use an SPF umbrella—you’ll thank yourself.
Pack a personal fan. A good rechargeable one is about $20 and will change your life.
There’s no award for being "hardcore." Be kind to yourself and prep for comfort.

If you're already very drunk before your tour, please reschedule. The goal is to enjoy a drink or two during the experience—not start at a 10.
If you realize halfway through that you’re done, no problem—just tip your guide before you head off.

Please be mindful of others.
Smoke downwind of the group.
Yes, this includes marijuana—it’s decriminalized, not legal.

Of course take photos!
But if you’re scrolling social media while your guide is telling a story, it’s disheartening. Please save the scrolling for in-between stops.
If you're using your phone to take notes or for accessibility, just let the guide know!

This one’s real: if someone in your group is visibly not into it or being disruptive, it’s okay to lovingly suggest they bow out. Everyone—including them—will have a better time.

Please don’t hesitate to ask to stand near your guide. We want everyone to enjoy the tour fully.

Sometimes 3rd party vendors (concierges, apps like Get Your Guide) will promise perks that your guide isn’t aware of.
→ If you booked through one of these services, mention any perks at check-in.
Always double-check the tour company’s website for accurate descriptions.
→ For example: Only ONE company has access to St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. If your concierge promised that and you're not booked with the right company, that’s a problem they created—not the guide’s fault

Put eyes on your check-in spot ahead of time. Don’t assume. It’ll save you—and your guide—a lot of stress.

A walking tour requires mild effort and moderate courtesy.
Exploring New Orleans demands a flexible mindset, a little prep, and a lot of heart.
Be actively kind—to yourself, your guide, your fellow guests—and let the magic of this city unfold before you.
